Building Makeovers

What builds do you have that have or are getting makeovers.

I have several build sporting new makeovers; this one came to mind while talking about my 22 LR collection.

After building four ss80's I decided I was ready for the compact size, this is one of them I build many years ago now.

Call The Spartan

You may think it has a battle warn look, but you would be half right. I started off with that plan but most of the warn look is from paint flaking off because of not curing for the proper amount of time. The grip is a rubber stick on, after trashing out one of the ss80s I didn't have the confidence to try my hand at stippling again until I had better skills.

This one moved on to the Black & Tan build.

Dumped the rock slide crap for a new slide and new style grip in the frame. This is why I say build your grip designs out of JB Weld. You can remove it and start over without a major project, plus the fact that I haven't stippled it there is really nothing keeping me from redesigning the grip. I never did care for the color scheme, so I moved on to another makeover.

Now here is where the build it at now.

sporting a new Zaffiri Precision slide and ported barrel, you can see I have changed the grip again. This time it has been stippled, so future changes are limited. The paint on this build has some runs on the other side that bug the hell out of me and will be repainted at some point, but the dragon and stippling in the grip are the to stay.

Wow, cool to see the transitions over time. My only complete build is my SC that is in the gallery and is more on the plain jane side. I plan on changing out the controls for a different color scheme in the future, not sure what else. Plenty of new builds to complete before then.

I first started working on getting all the parts needed for building a safe complete shooter.

After that, shooting one day I asked what's next, then started looking at all the custom build I could find. The first thing that came to mind was yeah I can do this without spending a lot of money getting in trouble with my financial adviser (Wife).

The way I look at it is, once you have a build that is safe and shoots fine, you already have spent the money on the expensive stuff. The worst-case scenario is you need a new frame if you mess up and even then, it has to be really bad. You would not believe how easy it is to fix frames. I think everyone that has a shooter is ready for the next step, customizing and that is mostly time and patience. It usually takes me 3-4 months to do a custom job but I only work on them at night for about an hour or two.
