by Lacrouso » Fri Mar 25, 2022 3:09 pm Hey Freedom Protectors, So I got a Dremel workstation, found out that a standard Dremel chuck will not accept a 4mm bit, bought a bigger chuck from Marine Gun Builder, then used it to do the M3 holes at a friend's house. Everything went sideways from there. Somehow the chuck was threaded directly onto the end of the Dremel, and the inside of the chuck was threaded out of the outer cone of the chuck, and further up into the Dremel, where it was stuck for a few days. I was able to remove the chuck eventually, but now the inner workings of the chuck are stripped and I can't thread the outer cone back on to use the chuck as it was originally intended, after spending a decent chunk of change to buy the best tool for the job, and I still need to do the M4 holes. Should I attempt to repair the chuck and proceed with the original plan, or should I get a hand drill or some other solution to do the M4 holes? Also is there any chance MGB has some kind of warranty on the chuck or anything else to outright replace the damaged chuck that has only done a few holes and is basically ruined atm? PS never, ever allow your drunken friends to touch your tools, not even for a moment PPS has anyone tried using a 3/8 ball nose end mill to do the channel or seen video of anyone else trying it? I saw a still image going around reddit and it looked a lot cleaner and more straightforward/simpler than what I was able to do with snips on my previous builds.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "bought a bigger chuck from Marine Gun Builder" but MGB is not and never has been a supplier. You probably used an affiliate link to which you were connected to a website, probably Amazon, which is who you purchased from. I would check your account and invoice. That's who you should seek a replacement from. I don't know which bits you are using but I suggest using the original chuck with the suggested Dremil bits , 7/64 bit from the Dremel 628 set for 3mm holes and 5/32 Brad Point bit from the Dremel 631 set for 4mm holes (see pic), that will fit the original chuck. 20220325_162619.jpg See part 3 of my Dremel series. YouTube deleted it and I haven't re-edited yet so catch it on my Rumble channel. https://rumble.com/vubo0c-how-to-setup- ... ality.html I bought the "mega chuck" from ebay, I think the seller is in Hawaii and designed it for MGB or something, but I decided to go with standard Dremel bits this time since nobody here seemed to know what I was talking about. Everything came out, but the 5/64ths bit isn't as tight as the hole I put in my last frame with a 4mm bit and now I'm concerned about the pin walking out when I shoot. It doesn't quite fall out while handling the frame but it definitely wiggles more than I'm comfortable with. I'm still looking at the channel and considering different options. Has anyone tried to use a 3/8 ball nose end mill like I mentioned in my original post? Sorry for the delayed response, I had guests staying here and I haven't had time to mess with my hobbies. He never mentioned anything like that but it's neither here nor there. You got your holes drilled. If you're worried about the pin creeping out you have a couple of options without filling with JB weld and redrilling. DISCLAIMER: I've never had to try either of these remedies but I've heard they work quite well. The first should work great but it's a permanent fix. Once you're happy with your build, you've been to the range and she functions flawlessly, you can remove your slide, lay the gun on either side and put a drop (half a drop off the end of a needle) of superglue or red loctite on the inside of ONE END of the pin. Give it ample time to cure and you should be good. Make several trips to the range or rung at least 100+ rounds to ensure it doesn't creep out. While this seems extreme and like I said, maybe permanent, it should be fine as long as you only get the glue on the pin. You can also do it from the outside if you don't mint the difference in color from the glue. The second, and this would be my choice since i rebuild and try differentthings over time, is to do the same process but with blue loctite. It should give the same result but if you think you might have to remove the pin later then this will give much easier under the pressure of a role pin punch and hammer than the superglue or red loctite would. Bare in mind, loctite is designed to fuse or semi- fuse screw threads together so it may eventually give way under recoil over time. This is honestly a remedy I wouldn't trust to an EDC or emergency home defense weapon. For that I would choose option one. Just my 2 cents. I'll reply to your question about the channel in the next response. Cory Sepeda gave us the perfect dremel tip to use for a channel and it works great.

Closest bit it 2.8 mm. Apparently, you have to order the 628-01 to get the standard. My bad for not looking closer at the description. May not be a bad thing. I measured an old 7/64 bit and it comes in at 2.76 mm. So, I'll probably just use the 2.8.
