Once your set to paint, you can paint all kinds of stuff. I painted up some parts for my jeep and some honey-dos. But yes set up to Cerakote, everyone seems to go with it and it is a great paint for anything you want a hard coat on. If I had it to do over, I would use Cerakote instead of KG Gunkote. There about the same hard coat paint and I haven't any complaints.
I use a airbrush for my sprayer $30 to $80
I made a paint both out of some old wood and a small shop vac I was replacing. $0
My oven is just an small electric smoker $125
You need to have a air compressor with a regulator, I already had one in my shop-garage.
KG Gunkote cost $22 for a 4 oz bottle. I can paint four pistols with 4 oz. I think they have raised there price.
Cerakote should be about the same price. The difference between them is mixing.
KG Gunkote is ready right out of the bottle, but I think Cerakote has to be mixed.
KG Gunkote boosts a loner shelf life, but I don't know if that's true, both have additives to add for curing at a lower temp for painting plastics such as polymer frames.
I got set-up to paint because of slides and frame colors don't match and I am big on matching frames and slides for a full build color.
My first builds when I was still learning and didn't know if I wanted to jump into painting, I use old can paint bought at Lowe's. I just use a clear coat over paint and it held up ok but does scratch. All have been repainted now.
When you can paint your own builds, you will find that you want to do some stenciling. getting setup for that cost's big up fount but that's when you need to talk to me. I can help with that.
