Sometimes we just feel the need for a change, for whatever reason. So on today's episode of "Cooking with Nosce" we'll be adjusting the color of an existing frame :).In this particular case I have been toying with the idea of refreshing my very first frame ... Originally grey and that was all well and fine, but I wanted it to be green - more emerald than OD if at all possible. So what to do? Easy! RIT DyeTools:Stainless steel pot big enough to submerge the frameStainless steel tongsRIT Dye (Went with the synthetic in a "peacock green" for my use case)

Prep:If needed, strip frame - The dye won't stick to metal, but you want even coverage of all bits and pieces. You will want to do this to a frame after it has been drilled and milled.Step 1:Fill pot with water; Check to ensure that water will amply cover frame.

Love that color! Very classy.
Love it
If you mask off parts of the frame can you dye frames to come out with a camo patterns using different dyes?
Your dye looks good!
Apologies for some funky formatting - I did this all as one post and Wix balked at me for putting in too much.
I wanted to get a little darker so I put the frame back in for an additional 2 minutes (1 minute on a side).
I was happy with how it looked so I took it out ...
Step 6: Rinse and dry ...Thoroughly rinse the frame off with warm water, then put it on a papertowel or plate to dry... This would be a good time to double check that the dye has taken completely - you can always put it back in the bath for a while if it appears spotty, but ... I'm guessing you'll be A-OK :)
That won't take very long at all. I would suggest put it rails down so that all the water will drain out properly ...
Step 7: (Re-) Build it!Now comes the fun of putting it all back together again :).
Step 4: All we need is a little patience ...
Set a 5 minute timer - When that goes off, use your tongs to flip the frame over; Set another 5 minute timer.
It'll smell pretty funky and steam will be coming off the water, with perhaps a few bubbles in the liquid - you do NOT want to be at a full boil!
Step 5: Judgment day ... Take your frame out of the bath for a moment to see if the color is where you want it to be. If need be you can leave it in for longer for better saturation, or if it looks like some parts aren't evenly colored.
These were from after 10 minutes in:
Step 2:Remove frame (for now) and begin to heat your water - You want to bring it up to just under boiling:
When you see the little bubbles add your RIT Dye.
Reduce heat a little - you want to keep it warm but not bring it to a boil... give it ~ 3 minutes before proceeding on ...Step 3: Take the plunge! Time to submerge your baby ... Lower it gently into the bath
