I have been busy working on our new site but it hasn't slowed me down on building.
Here is the latest build at Hawk Customs, I am working on a Freedom wolf with a Advantage Arms 22 LR convertion slide. Here is where it stand as of now.

It is a tribute build for our new site and group (Builders Tribe)
I call it Tribal Wolf. I have incorporated as mush custom stuff I as I could so when we start Hawks Custom Corner, I can show all the how I to do it stuff that make building your one-of-a-kind some much easier to do.

At this point of this build it is about planning out paint along with design of stencils. This is why I like to have more stencils than I need so I can do a layout, sit back and take a long look at my plan. Even without the color of paint you can imagine what it will all look like when it comes together, this is where I will make changes if needed, OH this design is my second plan, I have changed from my first plan.
So lets do a flash back and take a look at the start of this build so I can show how I planned this one.

This was my first step:
At FTQ we talked about imbedding something on a frame. I have never tried it before and that really got me thinking if I could. WE4PONXYZ knew I was stating some Freedom Wolf build and sent me this wolf head to see what I could do with it. At first, I tried to find a place on the side of the grip, but it was not feeling right for a griping. By putting it on the front it feels like finger groves like older Glocks. Another thing I had to look for was how much plastic I could remove for a secure fit when epoxied in place it would have a imbedded look instead of a glued-on look.

I had to take a little off the back of the wolf head to get it to lay flat, I think it is aluminum with some kind of filler to make it harder to keep it from scratching.
With a freedom wolf the front grip has plenty of room here to recess the head just don't remove any plastic beyond the texture. There is a magazine release spring that sits just under neath that surface that you do not want to cut into.
My plan is to melt the plastic flat with building up to the edge of the wolf head to help hold it in place after I epoxy it in place. This I hope will give it the look of being part of the build and not just a add on. We will see how this turns out.
I traced out the wolf head and use a verity of diamond burrs to cut in the place for the head.
I'll try to post a little every day on all the mods to get upto date before I paint.
Tell me what you think about imbedding stuff into builds and if you think it will be a pulse or minus.
Time is running out for building time in the shop. Spring brings all kinds of stuff to outside.
I have this build ready for paint, the next time I can spent a few hours on it I'll paint.
Instead of sanding logo stuff off the frame this time I filled it in with JB Weld.
Slide has a good 800 grit paper finish. My plan for this one is to be a white brushed look.
When I built the PF9ss Little Hawk I use four layers of color that I really like the way it looks, I thought I would try it on this one too. I'll start off with a layer of flat black, then a gray, a coat of light tan, then flat white. The trick is to only cure each coat for 15 to 20 minutes, then brush, cure for 2 hours. I plan on using a bunch of tribal stencils next painting with a flat black then put a coat of flat clear and cure for 21/2 hours. We will see if it all turns out as planed but it will take a full day of painting.
