This one is a shooter; form the serial number it looks like this one was built in 1917 so she's been around for a while.
I became the proud owner of this one back in the 80s as a gift from my step father. He bought this from a sale at the Great Lakes Navel Base back when the military use to have surplus sales to civilians. NOW make sure our sitting down!!! He paid $25 for it.
When I got hold of it, it was all stock in a Parkerizing finish that was so thin I couldn't keep the surface rust off.
It needed to be tighten up too so did that and then two toned the finish. That was a big thing back then.
I used this for shooting matches in the local gun club, mostly what we called bowling pin timed match (knock down five pins fastest time wins) You set your pistol on a table pick it up shoot set it back on the table. My best time was 4.5 seconds. not world class but second best in the club. MAN!! I loved this match lots of fun.
This one would be worth a lot more if I hadn't changed it but I like shooters more than collector pistols.

Very sweet. Closely resembles the one I carried back in the day as a young 2LT.
