So in this week's installment of how to spend your kids inheritance, We bought a bipod, handstop kit and a 10 round magazine. Since the gun is so heavy. I decided to go ahead and put a bipod on it and I wanted a handstop kit to be able to get a good grip when I hunt with it. But after looking at it with the bipod on it. I'm not sure if I want to install the hand stop. I went to the gun store yesterday to try and nail down. What type of scope? I wanted to put on It. But I guess i'm just more confused now than ever. What happened to the days of the old school scopes? Now you've got BDC, mill dot illuminated, unilluminated. I mean come on how much do you need! LOL Oh and don't get me started on first focal plane or second focal plane!!! Anyway this is what I added yesterday.
If I needed another LPVO I might go with Primary Arms. I have a Swampfox Tomahawk 1-6x24 and a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-4x24. Right now the next optic I need for the .300 blackout pistol will be the Primary Arns SLx 1X MicroPrism™ Scope - Green Illuminated ACSS Cyclops Reticle - Gen II and SLx 3X Micro Magnifier.
I have the gen1 MD-25 red dot on my 300blk. Wanting to upgrade to the new gen2 with shake awake and ACSS reticle. Might go with a micro magnifier as well. How do you like the Tomahawk?
Correction, I got the Vortex 1-6x24 and the Tomahawk 1 -4x24 with the Guerrilla Dot BDC. I like it a lot. I'm still learning how to use the reticle better.
So yesterday I went looking to see if I could find that stock in any of the local stores. And I couldn't, but I did find a Magpul PRS so it came home. I picked up set of MBUS iron sights as well just until I get a scope and mount.
This bitch is heavy !!! 10.2 lbs. I'm not sure if a different barrel would make that much lighter. Oh well it may need a bipod lol.
It's mostly an aero precision build with only a few other manufacturers parts.
PARTS USED:
Aero M5 upper and lower
Aero upper and lower M5 parts
Aero 308/7.62 BCG Phosphate
Aero AR10 BREACH AMBI CHARGING HANDLE W/ LARGE LEVER
Thanks for the link, this is the first time I took the time to look them over. Lots of good stuff and better prices too! I know where my next bonus is going.
I had a 10.5 SBR with a thin barrel and it wasn't too heavy. The only thing I didn't like was the fire ball that came out the end. It was cool watching someone shoot it at night though. Lol1
Does anybody have any experience with this stock or this company? This is the same guy that used to own DPMS. It looks to be very similar to the Magpul stock but at less than half the cost.
The adjustable gas block and gas tube are up next and just let me tell you that roll pin was a bugger. I've got to go to town and pick up a 3 32nd Allen key, quarter inch socket to fit my quarter inch torque wrench.
I went with a muzzle brake from VG6 Precision, it's the Epsilon 762. It's supposed to help mitigate the recall of the 308 and the 300 blackout cartridge.
I can't find any aeroshell 33 or 64 nearby. And i'm kind of impatient and want to get this build started. This looks to be fully synthetic with a Molly base with no graphite. So would this be a decent substitute?
I'm gonna start with the lower receiver. Everything is going in it's gonna be magical and aero precision for now. Like I said before. I just gotta figure out which stock I want to put on it.
I moved about 6 months ago. and of course, when I went to look for my building tools. I can't find anything but my armor wrench. It's nothing but some roll pin punches and starters. So I guess I'll make do for now.
Man it sucks what do you know on u s p s and fedex. At least it says that santa will come before christmas. Everything should be in today for the AR10 in 308. Except for the stock and the buffer tube. I just can't decide on if I want a Adjustable stock Or if I want to go with the magpul PRS system.
Picked up charging lever and gas tube. Also I got a 308 upper vice block. I can't find a barrel that I like in stock anywhere. So I guess that's probably going to have to wait for a later date. Anyway, it's Christmas and the Wife is having a fit about money, lol.
It's a lazy sunday afternoon and I figured what the hell I'll start putting some of the parts that I already have together. With the Aero Precision upper receiver, they have a forward bonus list that is held in with a pin that is treaded. I was just wondering what this need a dab of lock tite to keep it in place? Or is it frowned upon using lot type with aluminum? I was reading on their website about their low profile gas block. If you use lock tite it will void the warranty. But since I'm putting it together myself. I really don't think I have a warranty.
That's the cool thing about Aero. Some of the standard roll pins are swapped for threaded ones. They use threaded for the bolt release too. They also have a screw adjustment for when you put the upper and lower together. It removes the wobble you normally get between the two.
I got in a few parts yesterday!!! I think i'm gonna place another order today for some stuff. So I do have one question for the a r builders in the group. I was reading, I think on aero precision website that in the 308, There was not more performance gain in a barrel that was longer than 18 inches. This would be a barrel with a rifle Length gas block. Account, I'm looking to do a couple things with the 308. Some light hunting around the house and maybe some medium to long distance shooting. I kind of want to keep this build lite.
308 lends itself better out of shorter (sub 20”) barrels than 6.5 does. The reason for this is that 308 can reach practical velocities in a shorter barrel length than 6.5. If you are explicitly wanting to build something relatively short and compact (16-18”) 308 might just be the ticket. 6.5 can still work out of short barrels- it will just do so much less efficiently, generally speaking, 20” is a low-end barrel length for 6.5 Creedmoor.

I put the Magpul PRS stock on one of my AR's. It's a great stock, but I didn't like it because it was too heavy and bulky.

The only thing left is the order buffer tube and index the muzzle break.

The lower receiver's finished except for the buffer tube and stock.

That looks like a great base to build from! It'd be awesome to see future updates :). Aero stuff looks solid.
Aero makes great stuff.
Very nice 😁
That's one of the calibers I haven't built.
