Do you build with a pacific type of shooting in mind?
I do, I have some that I build for fun in the back yard all the way up to target shooting.
Some builds are built for a pocket or purse carry.
The point I am making is every time I start a new build it starts off with a design for Range, target,
or carry pistol before I start any plans on customizing.
Things like do I need a red dot, is this build going to need to use a light for carrying.
Just asking what do you do when planning a new build before you start?
I build with full intent to use, whether it's for the nightstand or edc.
I really don't draw a distinction between those. Unless we're talking about the stupid crazy target guns. Don't own a single one of those. Never got into that competitively, but I do reload for extreme accuracy in my hunting rifles. Every one I have can be used for carry, either concealed or open...depending. Every one also goes to the range and I generally use a target of some sort.
The main thing I plan for is functionality, reliability, accuracy, repeatability, and good looks on the subtle side. No frankenglocks. Although...not that I mention that, a Frankenglock might be an interesting theme...😂
I seem to always start with a visual theme and then make sure it also functions for everyday use. No safe queens here. I've carried everything I've built at some point. I carry copperhead daily but waiting to get all the parts for my plain jane though. Then I'll carry that.
Personally, any of my 80% builds are for range/show/sense of pride. My carry guns are off the shelf, OEM guns, that I have torn down and customized and are fit for the job (depending on season/attire they are Ruger LCP Custom, Springfield XDS45, or Sig P229).
