I can't help but send this teaser out, and giving away WAY more information than WE4PONXYZ! As soon as I saw this CL frame and 17L slide together, the lightbulb went off. The build is down the road a bit because I have to get good at stippling and I haven't even started trying yet

The best way to achieve this would be with a Rit DyeMore Synthetic bath on a FDE polymer80. Chocolate brown and a Graphite Black would be great color’s to go with. Since the dye doesn’t penetrate terribly far, when you carve into it it will reveal the lighter color underneath. Rit dye more will also penetrate slightly when painted on with a brush a few times and hit with a blow dryer between coats for texturing. I’ve never done this wood texture application but my theory is sound. You can seal it in with a clear coat or Cerakote wipe to increase its longevity. Check like Cosplay or monster creation etc. for reference on how to carve wood textures with a dremel.

I watched some videos a while back somewhere on how to paint a wood grain. They would use browns and yellows paint with a stiff brush and a rag, it looked beond my painting skills, so I don't remember much about it.

Or maybe even an fde/coyote frame dyed a darker almost wood colored brown and then textured like wood. You could make it a straight up wild west Glock. I thought about the wood grain look but when it came down to execution, I haven't a clue how to do it!

You may have to strip the coating off the badge if it cracks when you flatten it.

When you make your brass pins to hold the badge on, I would make some grooves in the side so when the glue dries it will keep the badge tight. You said bend the badge? Is it easy to bend? It will make the fell of the grip better if it has the same contour as the frame. How thick is your badge? Is it a cast or solid brass and milled? Sorry if I'm bugging you on this build but I can see some learning techniques here. I have never tried this before, and I have a future build in mind. It's been said I ask to many questions. Good tip. The brass pins will be mostly for looks and they won't have much to anchor to. The JB weld will do most of the adhesion. The badge is bent in a curve, I assume to fit a standard revolver grip. So, I'll have to flatten it out to fit the side of the P80 grip and then bend the edges to match the curve. It appears to be solid brass and stamped with the lettering, then weathered. It's approx .5mm/.021 inch thick. It's got some kind of protective coating on it, which I'll remove from the back side to get solid adhesion to the frame.

I'm sure you can really up your game with this one. When we talked about this it got me started thinking on a future build I have in mind. I'm thinking an American Indian theme, I thought about mounting turquoise rocks in the grip. The badge has mounting holes plus glue (JB Weld) on the back should hold. I can't wait, we need a step-by-step post when you get started. I'm thinking that I'll leave the factory stippling underneath the badge to give the JB weld more surface area. Of course flatten and bend the badge to lay perfectly flat. For the holes in the badge, I'm going to drill holes in the frame to match, then get some brass nails, cut them off so they don't protrude into the magwell and glue them in place. I haven't decided on a stipple pattern yet. Want it to blend with the theme. As far as paint...I've thought about it and whatever I do, if anything, has to be very subtle and enhance the stippling. I've thought about black, gold, or bronze, then stipple over it, removing most of the paint to just leave a highlight. Trying to decide which of my builds will become the sacrificial lamb for my stippling experience. Of course I'll practice on scrap plastic first.

Have you started thinking colors? To keep from painting the grip, it has to be tan.
The Badge is an antique bronze, that would look good with a black.
